The Death of the Media Heralds the Death of America

The clearest sign that America is on its last legs is the gradual demise of its media heralds. The media, or press as it was once referred to, was instituted as the watchdog of the country. Its job was to watch out for intrusion into the liberties of the people by government power. It goes without much argument that when the media dies the country it was supposed to protect against government power is about to die.

The First Amendment begins with the words “Congress shall make no law respecting…” It goes on to tell the government to stay out of religion, speech, the press, assembly or the ability of the people to petition the government to correct grievances. Clearly the Bill of Rights was written to suppress the power of government. The original argument between the Federalists and the Antifederalists was over how much power to give the government. The conservatives of the day won the battle for the wording of the Bill of Rights that properly limited that power because they believed with Lord Acton that “Power tends to corrupt.”

What the founders may not have anticipated was that the media, or press itself might become corrupt and begin supporting the power of government. When that happens, unless it is drastically corrected, a prosperous country will collapse. President Kennedy predicted this in these words on the 20th anniversary of the Voice of America in 1962:

We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.

Kennedy was right. When a nation is afraid of its people and has the media on the take for the government, the people no longer have a say and government takes over with a vengeance.

For many years this growing marriage between the liberal media and the government has become apparent to anyone seeking the truth. The majority of the media are no longer the watchmen of the country but have entered into collusion with the political party they favor.

This has been going on for many years. Leftist terrorists were involved in the 1954 shooting of members of the House of Representatives, the 1971 bombing of the Capitol building by the Weather Underground and another one in 1983, by a group of Weathermen who identified themselves as the Armed Resistance Unit. The media did not tell the truth when these fiascoes were taking place and that set the stage for future journalistic abuse.

In the 1954 terrorism the attackers entered the House gallery and sprayed it wounding five. The media generally treated them with kid gloves and President Jimmy Carter commuted the sentences of the terrorists who remained unrepentant and lived their lives as leftist activists for many years. The mainstream media was silent.

In the 1971 bombing none of the Weather Underground were ever tried and most lived prosperous leftist lives. Bill Ayers, for example, emerged from hiding and became a professor in Chicago and a political mentor to Barack Obama. To this day the media gives the perpetrators an implied or direct pass for their terrorism. To this day the left-leaning media gives Ayers a pass on his terrorist activities.

In the 1983 debacle the leftists set off another bomb on the second floor of the Capitol’s north wing resulting in $1 million in damage. Some of the perpetrators pled deals, and others received sentences but in his last days of office President Clinton pardoned the two heaviest sentences. The mainstream media was silent.

In more recent times the race-incentivized riots of the last couple of years revealed the bias of the mainstream media. Cities across the country controlled by Democrat governors and mayors experienced massive violence, looting, arson incidents, and unprecedented attacks on police officers but this violence was barely covered. Government buildings, places of worship, stores and businesses, courthouses and police department buildings were brutally attacked. The media ignored these atrocities except to give a sideways glance at them. There were 2,385 looting incidents, 624 arson attacks, 300 police cars burned, and 2,037 police officers injured and that’s just a conservative estimate.

In 2018 there was a massive demonstration of thousands of people protesting the possible confirmation of Brett Kanvanagh to the Supreme Court. Over 300 protestors were arrested and charged with unlawful demonstrating in the Senate office buildings. The protestors were egged on by an aggressive speech by Elizabeth Warren calling for protest. The protest came the same day as the FBI report on Kavanaugh was being read by the Senate. Check out this video of protestors banging on the doors of the Supreme Court. Earlier hundreds of protestors were arrested during hearings according to Reuters. If you do a search on protests at the capitol you will find this record completely disregarded unless you know where to look. Somehow this protest has been swept under the political rug by the liberal media that reports only what is good for their political positions.

By the way, Capitol Police said at the time of the anti-Kavanaugh protest that “The individuals arrested are being processed on site and released. At this time, we are unable to confirm the names of those arrested due to the large number being processed.” Processed and released. How unlike the treatment of the January 6 protestors! Media response? No comment.

Now compare the media’s attitude concerning so the called “insurrection” on January 6. Even though 47% of likely voters in America, including up to 30% of Democrats, believed the last presidential election results were fraudulent, the media continues their propaganda against it. There has been a steady drumbeat by the media about how terrible the riot was. Joe Biden said it was “the worse attack on democracy since the Cold War.” Is that history-challenged hyperbole? Matthew Dowd says it was “worse because it divided the country.” Was the dividing of the country not caused by a suspicious election and months of bogus riots in our streets? Arnold Schwarzenegger claimed “It was an attempted coup.” Chuck Schumer lamented it as a “day that will live in infamy,” an obvious reference to Pearl Harbor. On and on the media talking heads went, claiming comparisons to 9/11, Auschwitz, the Civil War, and much more. These “journalists” offered up opinionated claims without supporting facts as if their job was not to report the news but to support the Democratic Party and its lies.

The media and the Democrat Party have a simple strategy — repeat a lie often enough so that eventually it is accepted as truth. It works because the media is colluding against all things conservative. They did this with the Covington debacle, Tawana Brawley sham, the Duke Lacrosse coordinated lie, the Ferguson “hands up, don’t shoot” lie, the University of Virginia false rape accusations and the beat goes on…

The media is quick to jump on a bandwagon when it is driven by the Democrat Party. Hunter’s lap top expose was “Russian misinformation” not Department of Justice misinformation as it turns out. Lies about George Floyd, Covid lies about aspirin, Rendisiver, and Regeneron and other proven helpful treatments.

Free thinking Noam Chomsky once said “Any dictator would admire the uniformity and obedience of the U.S. media.” Yes, they are uniform and obedient to the liberal cause. They follow Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals like it is their bible and the Communist Manifesto like it is their constitution.

Allen Ginsberg once said “Whoever controls the media, the images, controls the culture.” Right now the political left has control of the media and regularly spins out their baseless storylines to keep the people in the dark. Thomas Jefferson said “No government ought to be without censors, and, where the press is free, no one ever will.” Right now our government has few censors and they are regularly censored by the evil of cancel culture as seen in the techno-democrat conspiracy against all things conservative. The press is not free and our freedom is waning.

We are on a steep slippery slope heading toward oblivion as a nation if we do not return to a balanced, honest, rational approach to journalism. Sadly, the death of the media heralds the death of America.
